Over the course of their three group games, England didn't concede a single goal, as Jack Charlton's physicality and Bobby Moore's craft in defence proved too much for the opposition to handle. A narrow victory over Argentina was followed by a matchup of arguably the two best teams in the tournament - England and Portugal. Still yet to concede, Ramsey set out to nullify a frightening Portuguese attack, tasking Nobby Stiles with the marking of Eusebio. Bobby Charlton stole the show with two goals, and Eusabio's late strike wasn't enough to change the outcome, but it did cement his place as the tournament's top scorer and cost Gordon Banks his remarkable clean sheet run. England conceded early in the final, but quickly levelled the score and went ahead in the 78th minute. A last- minute German goal took the tie to extra time, but Geoff Hurst scored twice to complete his hattrick and seal the result for England.
